Rising Demand of Electric Maritime cranes and Port Handling Machineries

According to latest updates and news from around the Industry, the demand for electric cranes and equipment has risen for ports and maritime operations across the world. This shift in electric cranes was earlier percieved to be limited to smaller capacity equipment which is now moving towards heavy lifting operations as well. According to a recent press release by Mcgregor, 80% of its order intake of 2026 were for electric product offerings.

Interestingly, beyond lifting, electrification has also reached terminal handling with just at par performance capabilities. Earlier this year Konecranes supplied first electric empty container handlers at the Port of Santos which were said to be capable of working 16 hours in single charge. In a similar, Safiport Derince, a Turkish terminal operator had also deployed around 12 electric Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes
